Moorestown Township provides reliable curbside trash collection and recycling services to all residents through the Public Works Department. Service is included in your property taxes, so there is no separate subscription to sign up for as a new homeowner. Understanding your collection schedule and the rules for each type of waste will help you keep your home running smoothly and avoid fines.

Moorestown is divided into five collection districts. Your trash pickup day depends on which district you live in. All trash must be curbside by 7 AM on your collection day.

Important Rules
- Place carts curbside by 7 AM on your collection day.
- Do not put trash out earlier than dusk the night before.
- Maximum 60 lbs per container; maximum 32-gallon capacity.

Holiday Schedule Changes
Holiday weeks can shift collection schedules. Key adjustments include:
- Memorial Day & Labor Day: Monday pickup is skipped. All routes run one day behind. Thursday and Friday pickups are both collected on Friday.
- New Year's Day & Christmas: If the holiday falls on a Thursday, Thursday and Friday pickups are both collected on Friday.
- No change on MLK Day, Presidents' Day, July 4th, or Veterans Day.

Recycling
Recycling in Moorestown
Moorestown participates in the Burlington County Regional Recycling Program. Recycling is collected curbside every other Wednesday for the entire town, regardless of your trash collection district.
What Can Be Recycled
- Paper & Cardboard: Newspapers, magazines, office paper, mail, cereal boxes, cardboard (flattened). No shredded paper.
- Plastic: Bottles, jugs, tubs, and containers labeled #1 through #7. Rinse clean. No plastic bags, styrofoam, or film.
- Glass: Bottles and jars only. Rinse clean. No window glass, ceramics, or Pyrex.
- Metal: Aluminum cans, tin cans, foil. Rinse clean. No scrap metal or large metal items.
Recycling Do's and Don'ts
Place recyclables loosely in your bin -- do not bag them. Plastic bags are not accepted in curbside recycling and can jam sorting equipment at the facility. If you have plastic bags, return them to participating grocery stores. Rinse containers before recycling to avoid odors and pests.
Recycling Schedule
Recycling is collected every other Wednesday for all Moorestown residents, year-round. Because the pickup day stays consistent, it is easy to plan around: mark your calendar for every other Wednesday and set a reminder the night before. Bulk Trash, Appliances & Yard Waste
Bulk Trash Collection
Large items such as mattresses, furniture, bed frames, rugs, and wood are collected on your regular trash pickup day. No special appointment is needed, but please follow these guidelines:
- Mattresses must be wrapped in plastic.
- Rugs must be tied and cut into 3-foot lengths.
- Place items neatly at the curb without blocking sidewalks or traffic.
- Be reasonable in the amount placed out at one time.
Appliances & Scrap Metal
Washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, and scrap metal require a scheduled pickup. Call Public Works at (856) 235-3520, Option 2, to arrange collection. Items must be curbside by 7 AM on the scheduled day.
You can also drop off appliances and scrap metal at the Public Works Center, 601 East Third Street, on Saturdays from 8 AM to Noon. Maximum of 2 tires per household.
Brush & Yard Waste
Brush pickup is scheduled monthly by district. Your pickup week is based on the same district assignment as trash collection:
- District 1: 1st Monday of the month
- District 2: 2nd Monday of the month
- District 3: 3rd Monday of the month
- District 4: 4th Monday of the month
Brush should be placed curbside with cut ends facing the street. Do not mix brush with trash or recycling. Leaves and grass clippings should be bagged or placed in designated containers.
Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, batteries, electronics, oil) is not accepted in curbside collection. Burlington County holds periodic household hazardous waste collection events. Check the Burlington County website for the schedule of upcoming drop-off dates. Moorestown also participates in county-wide electronics recycling events.
